
The Department of Botany at Nehru Memorial College (Autonomous), Puthanampatti, organized an educational field visit to the Industrial Wood Research Division, Mukkombu, on January 7, 2026. The purpose of this visit was to give students practical exposure to wood research and wood products.A total of 30 UG & PG students and faculty members visited the division. Key Highlights: - Mr. Saravanan Range Officer welcomed students and shared insights on the division's research focus and goals - Emphasis on sustainable wood utilization and innovation - Discussion on wood alternatives (bamboo, agro-residues), bio-adhesives, and resistant wood products - Overview of medicinal plants: varieties (lemongrass, tulsi, neem, aloe vera, sandalwood), uses (traditional medicine, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, aromatherapy), and conservation efforts (cultivation, sustainable harvesting, ex-situ conservation) - Project Associate Ms. Anudharshini explained wood processing and product development.
