The PG and Research Department of Commerce organized an "Investment Awareness Programme on Commodity Exchanges" on 5 January 2026 at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall. The event aimed to give students and faculty insights into commodity trading and the role of financial literacy in today's markets.
The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. R. Mathivanan, Director of the Department of Commerce. Ms. S. K. Saisrivani, Assistant Professor, introduced the guest.
The seminar was graced by institutional leaders. Shri Er. Pon. Balasubramanian, President of the College Committee, delivered the presidential address. He highlighted investment avenues in India, how to leverage the opportunities, and methods to identify profitable investments. Shri. Pon. Ravichandran, Secretary of the College Committee, provided encouragement and support for the successful conduct of the programme. Dr. A. Venkatesan, Principal, delivered the felicitation address, Dr. K. T. Tamilmani, Vice Principal and Dr. M. Meenakshisundaram Coordinator, Self-Finance Stream, provided valuable support for the programme.
Mr. N. Sundar, M.Sc., M.B.A., CMA (Cost and Management Accountant & SEBI SMART Trainer) served as the resource person. He addressed the students on the commodity market, explaining how platforms like MCX and NCDEX function compared to stock exchanges. As a SEBI SMART Trainer, he emphasized the importance of investor protection and the volatility of commodity trading. The programme ended with an interactive Q&A session, where participants asked about trading procedures, minimum investments, and career opportunities. Mr.N. Sundar clarified doubts using real-life examples.
The programme's outcomes included enhanced awareness on commodity exchanges and their operations, better understanding of commodity derivatives and investment strategies, greater confidence among participants to explore commodity markets responsibly, and promotion of informed, regulated investment practices.
The programme was highly informative and successful. It bridged academic theory and practical market operations while highlighting risk management. By featuring a SEBI-certified trainer, the department ensured credible financial education for responsible investing.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and was attended by over 200 students, who gained key insights into financial awareness and investment strategies.
