MENTORS' TRAINING CAMP

A 13 day Mentor's has been conducted by the department of English inaugurated on the June 01,2016 to inculcate the habit of speaking in English and to develop the LSRW skills. Prof . Sundarlakshmi, head of the department welcomed the invitees and the principal of the college, Dr . T. Jayaprakasam presided the inaugural and the same was felicitated by Prof. M. Ponambalam, Chairman-college governing body, Mr. Pon. Balasubramanian, President-college commitee, Mr. Pon. Ravichandran-Secretary, Dr. A. Prabhakaran, Dean and Mr. Jeyaram the placement officer.

Both I and II year students with outstanding performance in Part II(Language paper) and students recommended by the faculty were shortlisted and chosen to be the participants of the mentors' camp. 58 such students were made in to 11 groups with 5 participants in each. The groups were monitored and evaluated by a staff in charge of each group and the groups were given various assignments ands tasks to build their spoken ability. They were shown motivational videos, inspiring speeches, young achievers, and read time challenges and the days were closed with interaction sessions among peers.

On the tenth day of the event, a special guest Ms. Owenita De Cruz was invited to encourage the participants and it is delightful her session was lively and appreciated by both the faculty and the participants of the camp.

With all the positive enthusiasm, the valediction commenced at 10.30 a.m. On the June 15, 2016, at the seminar hall of the college. Valediction programme was solely arranged by the trained mentors with a little guidance from the faculty. Each group performed and demonstrated their abilities in the presence of the Management and received feedbacks from the experts. Participants were honoured with certification on completion of the programme. Prof . M. Ponnambalam, Chairman-College govering body shared his experience dating 1945's and stressed the importance of etiquette and comprehensive communication in English. The programme ended with the distribution of certificates to the mentors and special appreciation tokens to the staff.
